Using an Amateur Photographer

You may be a little wary of using an amateur photographer on some occasions. For example, you probably wouldn’t want your wedding, one of the biggest days of your life, being recorded by someone who might not do a very good job. However, it can sometimes be very beneficial to use an up-and-coming photography professional.

If you need a project completing in your company, for example, staff photographs for your website, an amateur photographer could probably do a very good job. You can allow plenty of time for the photo shoot – it isn’t a high-pressure event where the images have to be captured at just the right moment in order to work. You can look at the photographs they take as you go along and ask them to make adjustments if you don’t like them. You will probably save yourself a great deal of money – some amateurs will even take photos for free if they’re trying to build up a portfolio. It can also be good for PR as you’ll be supporting young, local talent.

Many new photographers who are just starting out will have fresh, innovative ideas. You might actually find it refreshing to work with someone who has just finished a college course, as they’ll have a very different perspective to the photographers who have been working in the industry for years. They will also be less set in their ways, so if you have a very specific brief, a new photographer might be the perfect person to complete your work.
