How to Photograph Landscapes

Many photographers want to capture the beauty of nature, and one of the best ways to do this is by photographing landscapes. There are a number of things you should bear in mind when wanting to create high quality images – follow our quick guide to improve your landscape photography in an instant.

Think about the time of day when you’re going to take your photographs. Natural photography is largely dependent upon the lighting – you don’t want too much contrast or the sun getting in your way and interfering. Try heading out early in the morning or late in the afternoon. The colours which you’ll be able to achieve at these times are beautiful.

If you want to further improve the colours, try using a polarising filter. This will help to reduce glare and will increase colour intensity and saturation.

Use a small aperture to achieve a sharp image which is less likely to blur in certain areas. You will usually need to use a slow shutter speed as well so you’ll probably require a tripod.

Think about the composition of your photographs. Split the scene into thirds in your mind, horizontally and vertically. Make sure that the interesting parts of your photograph are positioned in the places where the imaginary lines meet.
