It is Wimbledon week. That means the usual smattering of nonsense stories about the weather, queueing for hours just for the chance of tickets and excessively priced goods from in the Wimbledon grounds that could be bought minutes away at a fraction of the cost. It also means that photography, both professional and amateur, is coming to another major sporting event and with it comes controversy.
Professional photographers often cause problems at sporting events; flashing at the wrong time, being in the way and desperate for the best photograph that they can sell the following morning to whatever red topped pile of garbage they choose. Amateur photographers, too, cause mayhem in left to their own devices. The selfie sticks. The flashing and clicking from phones with the options still left one. People standing to take pictures to get a better view. Stay at home people. You’re ruining life for the rest of us.
