Portraits are not always easy to perfect, but one of the keys is leaving a sensible amount of space around the subject, whilst not cutting off hands, arms or shoulders.
A good portrait shot will look comfortable on the eyes, showing a clear facial expression, yet the focus should always be on the eyes. This is essential to a good portrait, whether you’re shooting outside, in a studio or from a distance, the eyes should always be in focus.
Portraits can take some time to master, but so long as you leave space around the person, focus on the eyes and make sure the lighting is adequate, you’ll be able to take some really good shots. It’s also beneficial to position your subject to the left or right of the frame in some cases, to get a slightly different shot.
